What is SIS?
SIS is an acronym for the School of Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. SIS offers degree programs in Information Science, Library and Information Science, and Telecommunications.
The School offers the following degrees:
- Bachelor of Science in Information Science (BSIS)
- Master of Science in Information Science & Telecommunications (MSIS)
- Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS)
- FastTrack Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS)
- Master of Sciences in Telecommunications (MST)
- Certificate of Advanced Study in Information Science or Telecommunications (CAS)
- Certificate of Advanced Study in Library & Information Science (CAS)
- Doctorate in Information Science (PhD/IS)
- Doctorate in Information Science with a Telecommunications concentration (PhD/T)
- Doctorate in Library & Information Science (PhD/LIS)

How do I apply to SIS?
When you apply, you are not applying to SIS per se but to one of the programs offered by SIS. For instance, if you intend to earn a Masters in Telecommunications, you will apply to the Telecommunications Program within SIS.

How much does it cost to attend a graduate program at SIS?

What types of financial aid are available to graduate students attending SIS?
Financial aid opportunities abound for graduate students attending programs at SIS. Financial aid disbursement is coordinated through your program of study within SIS, so check the web site for the degree program in which you are interested.

How do I set up an appointment with my faculty advisor?
You should set up an appointment with your faculty advisor either through email or telephone, or by stopping by your faculty advisor's office during their posted office hours. To obtain your faculty advisor's contact information, visit the online faculty directory.
How do I register for classes?
Once you have been accepted into one of the programs discussed above, you can register for classes by filling out a registration form available in Room 500A. Once filled out, the form must be signed by your faculty advisor and then submitted to our registration specialist, in 500A.
