News / 2012 Professional Development Day offers students the skills to succeed in the job search!

Thanks to the amazing members of the Alumni Society (SAS), the School presents an annual event to polish your job hunting skills.  On Saturday, February 4, 2012, iSchool alumni and representatives from Pitt’s Career Development Office will offer sessions on improving your resume, your presentation skills, your interviewing capabilities, and networking. You will particularly benefit from the mock interview opportunities: alumni will conduct face-to-face and telephone interviews with students. There are many resources available to help with creating job hunting tools and presentation skills, but this is the one opportunity you will have to experience the challenges inherent in the interview process.  Many companies and organizations prefer to conduct introductory interview via telephone or distance technology, which is an entirely different experience for the job-hunter. So, sign up here to participate in the 8th Annual Professional Development Day. Space is limited and RSVPs are required.

Professional Development Day is designed to help students create effective resumes, improve their interview skills, and identify the appropriate job-hunting resources to meet their career goals. Alumni and career professionals will discuss networking, resume building activities, presenting your educational and professional experiences effectively, and what Information Professionals are seeking in job candidates.

Professional Development Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. It will be held on the Fifth Floor of the IS Building, 135 North Bellefield Avenue. All students are welcome to RSVP and attend, but the day is particularly designed for those in the undergraduate and Master’s programs. Those who RSVP will be registered for specific interview times with alumni from their own field of interest (archives, systems design, etc) and provided with clear instructions on what to expect and prepare for Professional Development Day. Please RSVP by January 20, 2012.
