News / iSchool alum appointed Chief Technologist of FCC

Douglas C. Sicker, a 2001 graduate of the PhD in Telecommunications program, was appointed “Chief Technologist “ of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Dr. Sicker will be working in the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis at the FCC, which assists in identifying short and long term policy objectives for the agency. Dr. Sicker will be part of the group that provides in-depth and timely policy analysis of trends, monitors issues and overall industry health, and provides economic and market analysis. Currently, Sicker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder and holds a joint appointment in the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program.  His research interests include network and wireless systems, network security, and telecommunications policy.
