News / LERSAIS Lab at iSchool to host SACMAT 2010

From June 9-11, Pittsburgh will be home to the internationally-renown conference, ACM’s SACMAT 2010.  SACMAT, the Symposium on Access Control Models and Technologies, is dedicated to sharing novel access control solutions that meet the needs of heterogeneous applications and environments, and to identifying new directions for research and development. The conference will take place at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.  For information about conference events and registration, please visit http://www.sacmat.org/2010/index.php. The Laboratory of Education and Research on Security Assured Information Systems at the School of Information Sciences is the host for this event.  Other partners and sponsors include ACM SIGSAC, MODAP, and Carnegie Mellon University’s CyLab.

The conference will feature three keynote speakers, two panel discussions, and numerous technical paper sessions addressing policy analysis, role engineering, role-based access control, privacy preserving access control, and access control in distributed environments.

The keynote addresses include:

  • “New Access Models for Healthcare” by Tyrone W. Grandison of IBM Almaden
  • “Automated Management of Network Access Control from Design to Enforcement” by Ehab Al-Shaer of the University of North Carolina Charlotte
  • “Architectures for Practical Security” by Virgil D. Gligor of Carnegie Mellon University.

The first panel discussion will examine “Access Control in Practice: Pain Points” and will feature Bob Bocchino (Oracle Corp.), Praerit Garg (Symform, Inc.), Fred Frye (Integrated Biomerics), and Divya Sundaram (Motorola).  The second panel discussion will look at “Solving the Access-Control Puzzle: Finding the Pieces and Putting Them Together” and will feature Lorrie Cranor (Carnegie Mellon University), Carl Gunther (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Mike Reiter (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and Ravi Sandhu (University of Texas at San Antonio).
