PhD Student News

Our PhD students have received a number of honors and awards in acknowledgement of their research.

 

 

Tomasz Loboda and Julio Guerra recently received the "Best Paper" award at EC-TEL 2014 for their paper "Mastery Grids: An Open Source Social Educational Progress Visualization" co-authored with IST Program Chair Peter Brusilovsky and Intelligent Systems Program PhD student Roya Hosseini.

 

 

Shuguang Han received a CIKM Student Travel Award in 2013 and an SBP Conference travel grant in 2013 and 2014 and has been an intern at Google, The EdLab, Columbia University and the Language Technology Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

Nathalie Baracaldo received the 2014 Allen Kent Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Graduate Program in Information Science at the School of Information Sciences and earned second prize in the PhD Research Poster Competition at iFest 2014. She passed her preliminary examination with distinction in 2011 and has received numerous travel awards for conferences including ACM 2014 Conference on Computer and Communications Security, IEEE 2014 Symposium on Security and Privacy, and the Women in Cybersecurity Conference 2014. Nathalie also received a Microsoft Scholarship to attend the ACM 2014 Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing and a CISCO travel award to attend the Grace Hopper Conference (2012).
