School of Information Sciences - Telecommunications and Networking Program

Dean's Welcome Message

It has been my honor and privilege to meet many alumni and friends in the U.S. and abroad since becoming Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences in June of 2002.  The iSchool at Pitt takes great pride in its graduates. Our successful tradition of educating leaders in the information professions is exemplified by your successes.

Whether a trip to Japan or a conference in North Carolina, I inevitably hear success stories of graduates who have made a difference. I am continually inspired by your stories, impressed by your distinguished career paths and excited to learn of your personal milestones. From industry and government to libraries and education, you are exceptional leaders in a wide array of information professions.

In order for us to document and share your outstanding contributions to your professions and society, it is imperative that we communicate with you from campus and make it possible for each of you to connect with former professors and classmates. I am also excited to showcase your talents and achievements with others. So, when you have a moment, complete the Update Form. In addition to a biographical update, tell us about your personal and professional accomplishments. We are always looking for opportunities to brag.

If you are interested in helping to further the mission of the School, there are many opportunities for engagement. We are fortunate that many of our graduates return to campus to share their success stories with students, while others provide internship and job opportunities at their workplace. Many of those same graduates have made gifts to provide critical funding to enhance student aid, faculty scholarship, and student resources.

Alumni have a tradition of dedication to the School, its students and programs.  I look forward to continuing to build the School of Information Sciences reputation and legacy in partnership with each of you.
