Giving to the iSchool: FAQs

Where is my support most needed?

Many donors choose to make an unrestricted gift, which gives the Dean the ability to use your gift for the most pertinent needs. Others prefer to designate their gifts to a fund that interests them or one they had received benefit from as a student. Please read about our Gift Funds for more information. You can also speak with our development office if you have a particular area of interest.

I am a recent graduate and don't have much money. How can I support the iSchool?

Your gift to the iSchool, large or small, shows your generosity and support of your alma mater. We appreciate every contribution and can guarantee it will be put to good use.

What are matching gifts?

Many companies will match employee contributions to nonprofit institutions. These matching programs can double or even triple the value of your gift simply by completing some paperwork. Check with your employer's Human Resources office for more information.

What if I do not want recognition for a gift?

Donors can remain anonymous, if this request is specified at the time of making the gift. Anonymous donors' names will not be published in any iSchool or University-wide publication, but gift amounts will be counted towards campaign totals.

Can I give to more than one fund?

All giving venues and approaches are encouraged. We can divide your gift in many ways. If you need assistance doing this, please contact our development office.

Will I get an IRS tax receipt?

Tax receipts are mailed via United States Postal Service and should be received within one week of gift processing. If you have made a gift and have not received a receipt, please call Institutional Advancement directly at 412-624-5800.

How can I expect to be contacted to give?

Alumni and friends are typically contacted several times a year through mail, e-mail, and via telephone by student callers.

What if I do not want to be contacted for philanthropic purposes?

It is our constant hope that our alumni and friends will want to continue building relationships with us, but we also understand that situations arise when you cannot stay in contact with us. To be removed from our contact lists, please inform our development office.
