1/21/2014

The School of Information Sciences (the iSchool) was proud to host an informational session for ten faculty from the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) on Monday, January 13 at the Information Sciences Building in the heart of the University of Pittsburgh’s campus. The guests arrived on Sunday, January 12, and were greeted by Associate Professor Daqing He, who facilitated the visit.

On Monday, January 13, BUPT faculty attended presentations by representatives from our iSchool faculty, including David Tipper, Prashant Krishnamurthy, Kostantinos Pelechrinis, Taieb Znati, Peter Brusilovsky, James Joshi and Balaji Palanisamy. These presentations focused on the research interests of BUPT faculty, including mobile and wireless internet, computer science and engineering, telecom service and management and information security.

Four current iSchool students, whose home institution was BUPT, also met with the visiting faculty: PhD students Xulian Long and Xiao Ma and MST students Xiaoxiao Yu and Feifan Gao. Although the majority of the day was spent in the newly renovated, state of the art facilities on the 8th floor of the IS Building, BUPT visitors also had the opportunity to tour our telecommunications labs, student collaboration center, and other landmarks on Pitt’s campus including the Cathedral of Learning before departing.

Many thanks to Dr. Daqing He, the iSchool faculty and staff, and the visitors from BUPT for their collaboration in making this visit a success!
