iSchool to Welcome Sheila Corrall, Professor and LIS Program Chair

The iSchool is pleased to announce that Sheila Corrall has joined the iSchool faculty in Fall 2012 as Professor and Chair of the Library and Information Science Program. Dr. Corrall recently held the posiotion of Professor & Chair in Librarianship and Information Management at the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK; she also served as Head of School from 2006-2010. Dr. Corrall has earned a Master’s in Classics from Cambridge; a postgraduate diploma in Librarianship from the Polytechnic of North London; an MBA from the Roffey Park Management Institute; a Master’s in Information Systems from the University of Southampton; and a Certificate in Higher Education from Sheffield University.

In addition, Corrall has had a wide-ranging career in the library profession having worked in public libraries including the British Library, as well as several academic libraries at Aston University, the University of Reading, and the University of Southampton. She is an Associate of the Library Association and has been recognized as a Fellow by several prestigious organizations including the Royal Society for Arts, the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, and the Chartered Management Institute. In 2003, she was presented with the International Information Industries’ Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the information professions.

Dr. Corrall’s research interests include information service structures; strategic aspects of information literacy development; and library, information and knowledge management strategies. She is currently the Principal Investigator for several funded research projects in areas such as library collections for the digital age, evaluating intellectual assets of specific collections at the British Library, and a survey of service provision in specific academic libraries. Corrall has been invited to present keynote addresses/plenary sessions at such noteworthy conferences as the 6th Annual International Digital Curation Conference, the 9th Northumbria International Conference on Performance Measurement in Libraries and Information Services, the 12 European Conference of Medical and Health Libraries, and the Research Libraries UK Conference. She has published extensively, including three books as well as articles in such refereed journals as Education for Information, New Review of Academic Librarianship, Library Management, and the Journal of Information and Knowledge Management.
