bsis-alumThe iSchool is pleased to note that the Keynote Address at the iSchool’s Recognition Ceremony (May 1) will be given by Kenneth J. Spangler, (BSIS ’88). Mr. Spangler serves as Senior Vice President, Information Technology & CIO for FedEx Ground, the second largest domestic small package carrier. 

As Senior Vice President and CIO, Spangler is responsible for coordinating all information technology services for FedEx Ground, FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx SmartPost in the U.S. and Canada.  A team of 520+ professionals and 180 external consultants perform software engineering, architecture, software quality assurance, information engineering, PC/LAN services, and field systems support across FedEx Ground’s large automated network. 

With over 23 years in the transportation industry, Spangler has been a leader of applying advanced technology in large, high transaction IT Systems.  He has held various management positions in Information Technology, including:  Vice President IT Field Systems Development, Managing Director Information Systems, Director Applications Development, Manager Applications Development and other management and technical roles.  He is a 3 time recipient of the prestigious FedEx 5-Star Award, a 2010 recipient of the Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders Award and in 2011 was recognized by the Pittsburgh Technology Council as CIO of the Year in the global category for companies with 10,000 or more employees.

He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and currently a member of the IBM Power System Board of Advisors, Pittsburgh Large Corporation CIO Roundtable and University of Pittsburgh IT Industry Advisory Board.
