The School of Information Sciences (http://www.ischool.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a tenure-stream faculty position to start in the fall term of 2010.

The School is a top ranked information school (iSchool) offering a wide variety of multidisciplinary opportunities, including BSIS, MSIS, MST, MLIS, and Ph.D. programs. The iSchool at Pitt emphasizes the synthesis of people, information and technology, and offers opportunities for research, instruction, and service spanning the diverse needs and interests of an information-intensive, multi-cultural, and increasingly digital society.  The School is seeking candidates with a strong commitment to research as well as graduate and undergraduate education for the following position:

A tenure-stream faculty member with theoretical and practical expertise in the Organization of Information (both traditional and digital) and research interests in one or more of the following areas:

  • Knowledge management
  • Knowledge representation
  • Ontologies/taxonomies
  • Metadata generation and control
  • Semantic web
  • Indexing and abstracting
  • Cataloging/classification/subject analysis

Candidates who bridge disciplinary areas are specifically encouraged to apply.  Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong interest and current awareness of the technological and cultural context in which their knowledge contributes to issues of contemporary society.  A record of collaboration with other scholars is highly desirable. 

As the school offers online degree programs, in addition to on-campus programs, candidates with complementary expertise and experience in educational technologies are of particular interest.

Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with qualifications.

The School of Information Sciences (http://www.ischool.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a tenure-stream faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Telecommunications and Networking Program starting in the fall term of 2010.  Applicants must have a strong commitment to and record in research and scholarly activities. Research interests of the applicants should be in one or more of the following areas:

  • Networking aspects of cloud computing, data centers, and storage networks
  • Network management or security related to emerging network computing applications (e.g., social computing)
  • Network Protocols
  • Large scale automated network management and anomaly/fault diagnosis
  • Networked and mobile applications

The faculty member in this area is expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate education with teaching interests and practical expertise in computer networks, network management, and application development. 

Candidates with (or expecting) a Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field are encouraged to apply.
