Richard J. Cox, Professor and Chair of the Library and Information Science Program at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences, has authored a new text in the Principles and Practice in Records Management and Archives Series published by Facet Publishing.  Cox’s work, “Ethics, Accountability, and Recordkeeping in a Dangerous World” offers a series of essays that consider practical issues of administering records and leading-edge issues pertaining to public policy and recordkeeping.  Cox discusses record keepers as whistleblowers, recordkeeping in the age of terror, the challenges of recordkeeping in light of technological change, censorship and truth in recordkeeping, intellectual property issues, and the role of archivists and recordkeeping in the future.  The text is intended to encourage archivists and record keepers to examine the ethical dimensions of their work and to question how to determine organizational and societal priorities.

“Ethics, Accountability, and Recordkeeping in a Dangerous World” is part of a series of core texts from Facet Publishing addressing professional issues and areas of concern in the fields of archives and records management.  It is the 14th book written by Professor Cox, who has also published numerous monographs, articles, and technical reports on his areas of interest in archives and records management.  Cox is Editor of the Records & Information Management Journal, a former editor of the American Archivist, and a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists (SAA).  Among his numerous awards is the SAA’s Waldo Gifford Leland Award for superior writing in 1991, 2002, and 2005.
