USS LogoSIS alum Michael Williams was recently named manager of US Steel’s Gary Works plant in Gary, Indiana. Additionally, he will be responsible for the operations of East Chicago Tin, in East Chicago, Indiana, and US Steel’s Midwest Plant in Portage, Indiana. US Steel Chairman and CEO John Surma believes that Williams is up to this monumental task and notes: “Gary Works has more than twice the steelmaking capability of our second largest US plant, which makes effectively managing it and its associated operations among the most challenging jobs at US Steel. With a background in all aspects of both aluminum and steel production, and extensive financial and managerial experience, we are confident that under Michael’s leadership Gary Works will continue to achieve new levels of productivity, quality and service.”

Prior to coming to US Steel Williams served as Vice President of Commercial Products for Special Metals Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio. Williams also served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Ormet Corporation, an aluminum producer in Wheeling, West Virginia; and, he held managerial positions with Armco Steel Corporation and Koppers Corporation.

Williams earned his BS in Information Science with a minor in Economics from Pittsburgh University in 1983, and is also a graduate of Indiana University’s Executive Management Program.
