The faculty, staff and students of the School of Information Sciences are mourning the loss of Dr. Ida Flynn-teacher, friend and colleague-who died on Monday, April 12, 2004. Ida joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences in 1980, and taught in the Department of Information Science and Telecommunications. Dr. Flynn received Pitt's excellence in teaching award, "An Apple for the Teacher," in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. She retired as Director of the Bachelor of Science Program in 2000, but continued to teach in the undergraduate program and to publish.

Dr. Flynn received degrees from Adelphi University (BA, Math), Illinois Institute of Technology (MST), and University of Pittsburgh (MBA and PhD). Prior to accepting the position at Pitt, Dr. Flynn was Associate Professor, Business Administration and Computer Science at Point Park College.

A mass in celebration of her life will be held at Saint Rosalia's Church, 411 Greenfield Avenue in Greenfield, Wednesday April 14th at 10:00 am.

Contributions can be made directly to the Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center, or to the Ida M. Flynn Memorial Fund to be used in honor of her career.
