The iSchool Visiting Lecture Series presents:

Meet the Author: Anthony Clark, The Last Campaign: How Presidents Rewrite History, Run for Posterity & Enshrine Their Legacies

The Last Campaign explores the hidden politics & history of the taxpayer-funded, uniquely American shrines known as presidential libraries. Unrestrained commemoration, unregulated -- and undisclosed -- contributions, and unchecked partisan politics have radically altered the look and purpose of presidential libraries, changing them from impartial archives of history into extravagant, legacy-building showplaces where the goals of former presidents, their families, financial donors, and the national parties trump accuracy and the (often inconvenient) facts. Using primary source documents from his research at every presidential library, as well as his own analysis of the museums and public programs, Anthony Clark examines important aspects of the presidential library system.

The Cyber Security Seminar Series presents Dr. Apu Kapadia (Indiana University Bloomington), "Privacy in the Age of  Pervasive Cameras: When Electronic Privacy gets Physical"

Cameras are now commonplace in our social and computing landscapes and embedded into consumer devices like smartphones and tablets. A new generation of wearable devices (such as Google Glass) will soon make “first-person” cameras nearly ubiquitous, capturing vast amounts of imagery without deliberate human action. “Lifelogging” devices and applications will record and share images from people’s daily lives with their social networks. These devices that automatically capture images in the background raise new privacy concerns, and suitable techniques are needed to identify and prevent the sharing of sensitive images. Dr. Kapadia will discuss his research exploring privacy harms of pervasive cameras, understanding people's privacy perceptions and behaviors in the context of lifelogging, and two mechanisms for detecting sensitive images.
