School of Information Sciences

Information Assurance Scholarship Program (IASP)

Application Deadline:  January 30, 2012.

This scholarship is offered by the US Department of Defense (DOD). The School of Information Sciences, as a CAE, may nominate candidates for the IASP scholarship. All decisions regarding allocation of scholarship funds are made by the DOD.

The School of Information Sciences is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research (CAE) by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. In recognition of the excellence of our academic and research programs in Security Assured Information Systems, the iSchool may nominate qualified students for the IASP scholarship program.

Scholarship Details

This scholarship program will support Master’s students in the Information Science & Technology and Telecommunications & Networking programs over a two-year period. Applicants must be US citizens, have a minimum GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale), and be accepted into either the MSIS or MST program.

The program provides for the full cost of tuition, required fees and books, and a stipend of $19,000 per academic year. The Department of Defense (or another appropriate government agency) will assign a sponsor to each scholarship recipient who will provide mentoring throughout the recipient’s internships and employment.

Recipients will, upon accepting the IASP offer, sign an agreement obligating them to work for the DOD as a civilian employee for one year for each year of scholarship support. Students will also be required to serve as interns with the agency during the funded period. The internships and subsequent employment provide each student with invaluable real-world experience with one of the largest employers of Information Assurance professionals. Please note that such opportunities may require security clearances.
