Ellen Detlefsen and Pitt alumni represent iSchool at Medical Library Association Mid-Atlantic Chapter meeting

The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences is pleased to report a strong showing of iSchool alumni at the recent Medical Library Association Mid-Atlantic Chapter meeting. Associate Professor Ellen Detlefsen served on a plenary panel presentation on “From Old to New: Surviving and Thriving in a Changing Profession.”

The panel included two iSchool alumni: MJ Tooey, Executive Director, Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and former MLA President and Jaime Blanck, Clinical Informationist at Welch Medical Library at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dixie Jones, Director of Health Sciences Library at LSU Shreveport and former MLA President also served on the panel.

The theme of the 2014 meeting was “Foundations to Frontiers” and featured a number of invited speakers with great depth of experience in the health care and health information fields. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Medical Library Association serves the District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Ellen Detlefsen’s research interests include health information management and resources, medical informatics education, information behavior, and gender issues in the professions.
