08/18/2014

Orientation for students beginning in the fall term at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences (iSchool) begins Monday, August 18. The weeklong activities will kick off with activities designed to welcome international students and include a combination of group sessions, individual appointments and a campus tour.

On Wednesday, August 20, JoAnn Kavalukas will host a special session for new MLIS students who have accepted placements in the Partner’s Program and the iSchool will offer a bonus session on “Surviving Grad School and Student Life.”

New students will participate in a special design activity at the 20th Century Club on Thursday, August 21 where they will be welcomed by Dean Ronald L. Larsen and introduced to the iSchool’s staff. The afternoon will conclude with a degree program overview and advising session for all students. To round out the week, students will again have the option of a campus tour the morning of Friday, August 22, followed by sessions on Information All Students Need to Know, Research Resources and Academic Integrity and Career Planning and Preparation.

Finally, mark your calendars for the iSchool Welcome Picnic on Sunday, August 24. From 3:00 to 5:30 pm, iSchool faculty, staff and students will gather on the patio of the IS Building to welcome the new members of our community.
