Steven Choi (PhD ’76), Mayor of Irvine, California Visits the iSchool

Mayor Choi 2015Steven Choi (PhD ’76), an iSchool alumnus and the Mayor of Irvine, California, recently visited the iSchool while he was in Pittsburgh participating in the Mayors' Institute on City Design (MICD). Mayor Choi spoke to a group of iSchool students, faculty, and staff, as well as University administrators, about his goal of building a new 21st century library at the Great Park in Irvine.

Regarding his visit to campus, Mayor Choi said, "As a graduate of the School of Information Sciences, I'm happy that my training has come to the point that I can contribute towards an important policy issue in constructing a large-scale metropolitan library in my City of Irvine, where I serve as Mayor. While the City of Irvine, under the County of Orange Library System, has been underserved for a long time, especially in the library space needs, no city leader has paid any attention to the issue until I became a member of the City Council in 2004.” Read Mayor Choi’s bio.
