IS Showcase
Technology demonstrations and more invited undergraduates to explore the Information Sciences in the Litchfield Towers!

SIS Student Expo
More than 20 students submitted posters and demonstrations to the Expo, highlighting the cutting edge work done by students at SIS.

The SIS Fantastic, Amazing, Great Race
A great time was had by the five outstanding teams who competed in the Race. They tested their skills and athleticism by racing from Oakland to Downtown to the Waterfront! Coffee, technology, and ability to follow directions were key to persevering in this event! Congratulations to our winning team of Greg DiPietro, a Junior at SIS, and Josh Miller, a Junior in Civil Engineering.

i-fest.pitt.edu Colloquium
The School of Information Sciences was pleased to feature Dr. Chaim Zins as a Colloquia Speaker during i-fest. Dr. Zins is a Professor in the Department of Information Science at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. He discussed his recent research on the "Information Science Knowledge Map," a study of the theoretical foundations of information science (IS).

Steps To Success
IT Industry/Student Dinner

This evening event was a great opportunity for students in Information Science, Computer Science, Engineering and Telecommunications to meet and network with representatives from the IT industry.

Gaming Tournament
Sponsored by Pittsburgh CyberConXion
From Dance, Dance Revolution to Madden Sports, students had their game on for the Tournament. Thanks so much to Leon Edelsack and the staff at Pittsburgh CyberConXion for making this event possible!

Mother Goose Poetry Slam
There was some rhyming going on at the SIS building! More than 50 people turned out to enjoy a wicked twist on the art of poetry slam – everything was centered on Mother Goose nursery rhymes!

VISC Open House
The Visual Information Systems Center explored research projects with local community leaders, business executives and students.

Business Homeland Security Forum
Sponsored by VISC
Verizon President and CEO, James O’Rourke, joined business leaders, Pitt faculty, and students in discussing efforts to build a database of regional resources to respond to disasters. Students from VISC Director Ken Sochat’s class, IS 1024 Information Systems Analysis and Design, presented their research on building such a database.

Keynote Speaker Address and Luncheon
The Schenley Ballroom at the Holiday Inn University Select was filled with SIS faculty, staff, students, and guests! More than 100 people gathered for an elegrant luncheon and the keynote address presented by James O’Rourke, President and Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Pennsylvania Inc.

SIS Open House
135 North Bellefield Avenue (the home of SIS) was busy on this Saturday! There were technology demonstrations of research in Geoinformatics, Telecommunications, and Cybersecurity; competitions in Programming and virtual Poker, and an Open House for potential students!

IST Professional Development Day
The SIS Alumni Society hosted the Professional Development Day to allow current students to connect with alumni from IS-related professions. This hands-on session included resume reviews, mock interview opportunities, and a presentation on successful job hunting and career building. Thanks to the SIS Alums who made this possible!
