ADVISING
Our FastTrack MLIS program is built on the faculty advising process as is our on-campus program. Your offer of admission includes the name of your academic advisor with whom you will plan your program of studies. The first two terms of the program include the four (4) courses required for graduation, and you will take those with members of your cohort.
FT/MLIS PROGRAM PLAN
The FT/MLIS Program is designed so that students register for two courses each term for six terms and complete program requirements in two years. Our expectation is that students who enroll in the program will follow this plan.
TIMETABLE
The Summer Term begins May 10th. All students beginning the FT/MLIS Program in the Summer term will register for two courses, LIS 2000, Understanding Information (3 credits) and either LIS 2600 Introduction to Information Technologies or LIS 2774, School Library Media Center Management (both are 3 credits). LIS 2774 is required for students in the School Library Certification Program (SLCP).
STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES
The University of Pittsburgh has initiated eBills, so you will not receive an invoice in the mail. Please refer to the Student Services website for instructions and additional information about tuition and fees, billing, making payments, loans, refunds, resignations, and the ombudsman.
IMPORTANT DATES
TBA
ONLINE ORIENTATION PERIOD
At the beginning of this term, you will participate in an asynchronous ONLINE orientation program that will provide you with the information you need to succeed in your first two courses. It will be a prime opportunity to communicate with the faculty and staff who will play key roles in ensuring that you meet your educational objectives in your first term as a FT/MLIS student. Shortly after you have registered, we will send you information about the computing equipment you will need and about using the information technology most effectively.
ON-CAMPUS LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN PITTSBURGH
The Provost of the University of Pittsburgh and the DLIS faculty believe that two curricular components in the FT/MLIS Program are pivotal to its success in matching the exceptionally high quality of our on-campus program: the concept of the community of learners in forming a student cohort and the on-campus interactive learning experiences with faculty and students. Your participation in the on-campus learning experience is mandatory. Once you have registered, we will send you a schedule and travel and lodging options.
