"Charting the Future of Archives and Archival Work: A Panel Discussion."

Predictions abound that we are losing our documentary heritage as we move more deeply into the Digital Age. Meanwhile archivists and archival researchers and scholars are grappling with the preservation of digital records, while others are trying to invent new fields such as digital forensics and digital curation or stewardship.

This panel consists of archivists and archival scholars with a variety of experience and expertise in the field who will comment on the archival future and the place of archival work in our society, the nature of archival education for producing new archivists, and what archives will look like and how they will function in the future. Panel members include:

• Facilitator & Chair: Richard J. Cox, Professor, University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences

• Commentator: Amelia Acker, Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences

• Anne Van Camp, Director of the Smithsonian Institution Archives

• Dr. Robert Riter, Assistant Professor, University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies

• Deirdre Scaggs, Associate Dean, Special Collections Research Center and Director of the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center, University of Kentucky
