School of Information Sciences - Undergraduate Program

SIS financial support

The School of Information Sciences offers financial support to outstanding undergraduate students who already are enrolled in the degree program.

The Eli Lilly Book/Scholarship

The school offers three Eli Lilly scholarships each year. The annual Eli Lilly tuition scholarship provides $2,000 each year, and two book scholarships are available for $800 each. These awards are made in the spring semester and go to outstanding students nominated by School of Information Sciences faculty members.

The ALCOA Ambassador Scholarship

Students admitted to the undergraduate program in Information Sciences are welcome to apply for the ALCOA Ambassador Scholarship program. This one-time award will be offered in the amount of $5,000 or $7,000, depending upon the recipient's state of residency.

IS scholarship fund

This fund, supported by the SIS endowment, is offered to any undergraduate or graduate student in the school. The gift amount depends on the funds available.

Commonwealth funds

Each year, the School receives "Commonwealth Funds," which are earmarked to support diversity students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.  This program offers both tuition and stipend support.   The Commonwealth Funds are distributed through each degree program.

Affordable excellence

A year's tuition at the School of Information Sciences is:

  • $2,066 less than the average among other Pitt upper-level undergraduate programs
  • $1,096 less than the average among IS programs at other public universities in Pennsylvania
  • $21,258 less than the average among IS programs at Pennsylvania private universities
  • 50 percent less than the average among Pitt's fellow I-school coalition-member schools

Education, Not Training

SIS provides education rather than training, enabling its graduates to be experts in many professional areas.
