E.J. Josey, PhD Memorial Service @ Heinz Chapel, University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus from 3:00 p.m.
E.J. Josey, PhD (Professor Emeritus), died on July 3, 2009, in Washington, North Carolina, at age 85. Dr. Josey was a pioneer in the field of library and information science. He was one of only three African Americans to have been elected president of the American Library Association, and he received the Joseph W. Lippincott Award, the association’s most coveted award for outstanding achievements and contributions to the profession and society. Additionally, he was the founder of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. Josey was a Professor in the Library and Information Science Program from 1989 until his retirement in 1995. You can continue Dr. Josey’s legacy through a contribution to The E.J. Josey Scholarship for Minorities in Library Science. Donations can be made by visiting www.giveto.pitt.edu. The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate student in the Library & Information Science Program who demonstrates potential for academic excellence and leadership in the profession.
